short, direct, catalytic, enantioselective synthesis of polyketide segments and carbohydrates is presented. The novel, direct, one-pot, organocatalytic asymmetric tandem cross-aldol/Horner–Wittig–Emmons reactions assemble polyketide and carbohydrate derivatives in good yield with 93–98% ee.
