o-Vinylphenol dimerizes thermally to yield quantitatively two isomers, trans- and cis-2′-hydroxy-4-methylflavans. The analysis of the dimers of o-vinylphenol-O-d suggests that a quinone-methide intermediate is responsible for the formation of these flavanoid compounds.
