[GRAPHICS]The synthesis of two fully conjugated, rigid macrocyclic analogues to 4,4'-bipyridine is described. The use of these macrocycles in self assembly processes is demonstrated by axial coordination to metalloporphyrins, and one system (R = Me) has been characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography.
