  The present invention provides a method of treating a disorder treatable by administering a therapeutically effective amount of a tissue selective Stearoyl-CoA Desaturase 1 (SCD-1) modulator to a subject. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a method of treating a disorder treatable by administering a pharmaceutically effective amount of a tissue selective SCD-1 inhibitor to a subject. The invention also provides whole cell based screening assays to identify agents that selectively modulate the activity of SCD-1.
