The reaction of a 1:2 molar mixture of 1,2-Me2Si2Cl4 and MeGeCl3 with H2S/NEt3 yielded Me2Si2(MeGe)(2)S-5 (1), the first mixed silicon-germanium chalcogenide with a noradamantane-like structure, while the treatment of a 1:2 mixture of 1,2-Me2Si2Cl4 and PhSnCl3 with Li2Se resulted in the formation of the first silicon- and tin-containing noradamantane Me2Si2(phSn)(2)Se-5 (2). Both compounds have been characterized by NMR spectroscopy (H-1, C-11, Si-29, Se-77 and Sn-119). The molecular structure of I in the solid state is reported. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science B.V.
