Tricarbonyl(η6-indole)chromium(0) complexes substituted at the C2 and/or C3 positions have been reduced to the corresponding indoline complexes by the action of a hydride donor in trifluoroacetic acid. NaBH3CN and NaBH4 were found to be superior to Et3SiH as hydride sources. In general, reductions involving the use of NaBH3CN were found to occur with greater stereoselectivity as compared to reductions
Electrochemical Rearrangement of Indoles to Spirooxindoles in Continuous Flow

An electrochemical method for the oxidative rearrangement of indoles to spirooxindoles in employing an undivided, single pass flow cell is reported. The electrochemical reactions require no chemical oxidants and can be scaled up easily without need for re-optimization of reaction conditions by continuous production with parallel reactors.
