Tetrylenes based on substituted 2,6-bis(2-hydroxyphenyl)pyridines have been obtained. The dramatic influence of the ligand structure on the reaction pathways of free ligands with Lappert's tetrylenes has been established. Only sterically bulky ligands lead to the formation of monomeric tetrylenes.
