    A repeat insult microbial test method in which an antimicrobial agent is applied to a porous permeable substrate. The porous permeable substrate is inoculated with microorganisms and the porous permeable substrate is incubated for a predetermined period of time, at a temperature which is conducive to the flourishment of the microorganisms. The porous permeable substrate is reinoculated and reincubated a predetermined plurality of times and the inoculated porous permeable substrate is incubated for a final period of time between 18-24 hours at the temperature used previously. The porous permeable substrate is then examined and the growth of microorganisms is determined.

    A method of enhancing the deposition of a silicone conditioner to hair is disclosed. The silicone conditioner is delivered to the hair in an aqueous shampoo and is a polydimethylsiloxane fluid entrapped in a nontoxic hydrophobic macroporous highly crosslinked polymer. The macroporous polymer is a mixture of particulates including unit particles having an average diameter of less than one micrometer; agglomerates formed of fused unit particles and having an average diameter of twenty to eighty micrometers; and aggregates formed of clusters of fused agglomerates and having an average diameter of two-hundred to twelve-hundred micrometers.

    A method of preventing underarm malodor associated with human perspiration. There is applied to the skin of a human, a safe and effective amount of a macroporous crosslinked copolymer containing acrylate or methacrylate units. Components of sweat such as fatty acids found in human perspiration, are adsorbed and entrapped into and within the confines of the macroporous copolymer. The macroporous copolymer possesses a pore diameter of a size sufficiently small to inhibit skin bacteria from entering. Decomposition of fatty acid and sweat components by the skin bacteria is thereby retarded, and hence the generation of body malodor is reduced. The macroporous copolymer may be applied to the human skin in the form of a deodorant stick, a deodorant cream, a deodorant lotion, a deodorant spray, a deodorant roll-on, a deodorant pad, a pressed powder deodorant, a loose powder deodorant or a deodorant gel.

    A comb copolymer viscosity modifier may be made by polymerization comprising at least, or consisting essentially of, the following monomers: (a) a hydrogenated polybutadiene-based (alk)acrylate ester macromonomer (which repeat units may comprise from 7.0 wt% to 18 wt% of the repeat units of the comb copolymer viscosity modifier); (b) a C3-C8 alkyl (alk)acrylate ester monomer (which repeat units may comprise from 40 wt% to 71 wt% or from 45 wt% to 64 wt% of the repeat units of the comb copolymer viscosity modifier); and (c) a C12-C24 alkyl (alk)acrylate ester monomer, wherein repeat units based on the C12-C24 alkyl (alk)acrylate ester monomer comprise at least 21.0 wt% (and optionally up to 35.0 wt%) of repeat units of the comb copolymer viscosity modifier. Lubricant compositions comprising the comb copolymer viscosity modifier, as well as uses thereof and methods for modifying viscosity, are also contemplated herein.
