Commercially available anhydrous KF without activation or solid support promotes condensation between activemethylene compounds, carbon disulfide and an alkylatingagent in dry DMF to allow the preparation of a variety of ketene dithioacetals in fair to good yields under ambient conditions.

A clean, facile and practical synthesis of α-oxoketene S,S-acetals in water has been developed. Catalyzed by tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) at room temperature in water, a range of β-dicarbonyl compounds have been converted to the corresponding α-oxoketene S,S-acetals in very high yields. The catalyst in the aqueous phase can be recycled after the separation of organic products.
An efficient protocol toward fully substitutedthiophenes and thieno[2,3-b]thiophenes has been developed through CuCl2-catalyzed annulative coupling of S,S-disubstituted enones with diazo compounds under mild conditions. Tetrasubstituted thiophenes and thieno[2,3-b]thiophenes were efficiently accessed by variation of the feed ratio of the reactants in good to excellent yields, respectively. The synthetic

A synthetic strategy for the synthesis of substituted thiophenes is described by the one‐pot reaction of indoles with ketene dithioacetals under mild reaction conditions. Promoted by triflic acid (TfOH), the reaction of indoles with the easily available α‐acetyl ketene dithioacetals resulted in the formation of vinylketene dithioacetals via condensation instead of the well known nucleophilic addition‐alkylthio
