Inclusion by a Tricyclic Host: Structures and Variability of Hydrogen-Bonding Patterns

The apohost 9,10-dihydroxy-9,10-di-p-methoxyphenyl-9,10-dihydroanthracene crystallized in both the cis- and trans- conformation. The trans-host forms inclusion compounds with tetrahydrofuran, diethyl ether, acetone, pyridine and 1,4-dioxane. The resultant clathrates display a variety of hydrogen-bonding patterns which are described by graph-set analysis.
