  A copper-catalyzed radical methylation/sp(3) C-H amination/oxidation reaction for the facile synthesis of quinazolinone was developed. In this cascade reaction, dicumyl peroxide acts not only as a useful oxidant but also as an efficient methyl source. Notably, a methyl radical, generated. from peroxide, was confirmed by electron paramagnetic resonance for the first time.

  Controlling the reaction temperature at 50 °C, 80 °C, and 110 °C, respectively, the iodine-catalyzed reaction of 2-aminobenzamides with 1,3-cyclohexanediones gave structurally diversified products. In the latter, it gave bis-quinazolin-4(3H)-ones unexpectedly, with 1,3-cyclohexanediones ring-opening.

  Abstract The iodine-catalyzed reaction of 2-aminobenzamide and 2-oxopentanedioic acid in ionic liquids is described in this paper. It gave 1,5-dioxo-1,2,3,3 a ,4,5-hexahydropyrrolo[1,2- a ]quinazoline-3 a -carboxylic acid derivatives in high yields. One of their structures was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis.
