The syntheses of bis(2,3,4-trimethylpentadienyl)iron and bis(2,4-dimethylpentadienyl)osmium are reported, as well as their variable temperature NMR behaviour and a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study for the latter compound. All data indicate that these complexes adopt a gauche-eclipsed conformation in the ground state. Photoelectron spectra have also been obtained for these complexes, and suggest
