    The present invention concerns the use of a furfural derivative of formula (I) in which R represents (i) a —CH═CR′ 1 —COR 1 group, a group a group a group or a —CHO and R′ represents a hydrogen atom or a (C 1 -C 4 )alkyl group, as a chemical vehicle, as a solvent, co-solvent, coalescing agent, crystallization inhibitor, plasticising agent, degreasing agent, etchant, cleaning agent or agent for increasing biological activity, and more particularly as a solvent. It also concerns phytosanitary formulations or resin-solubilising formulations comprising at least one such furfural derivative of formula (I).

    Novel microcapsules are disclosed in which a liquid material which is substantially insoluble in water is enclosed within a solid permeable shell of etherified urea-formaldehyde polymer, prepared by a process which comprises: (a) providing an organic solution comprising said material and a urea-formaldehyde prepolymer in which from about 50% to about 98% of the methylol groups of said prepolymer have been etherified with a C4-C10 alcohol; (b) creating an emulsion of said organic solution in an aqueous solution comprising water and a surface-active agent, wherein said emulsion comprises discrete droplets of said organic solution dispersed in said aqueous solution; (c) causing in situ self-condensation of said urea-formaldehyde prepolymers by adding to said emulsion an acidifying agent and maintaining said emulsion at a pH of between about 0 and about 4 for a sufficient period of time to allow substantial completion of in situ condensation of said resin prepolymers to convert the liquid droplets of said organic solution to capsules consisting of solid permeable polymer shells enclosing said liquid material; and (d) heating said emulsion to a temperature between about 20°C and about 100°C to cause curing of said in situ formed polymers.

    Compositions which contain, as the active ingredients, a combination of a heterocyclic compound of the general formula (I) and an organophosphous compound, in addition to an amorphous silica additive selected from the class consisting of: (a) an amorphous silica obtained by a process, wherein an amorphous silica hydrate, which has been produced by a wet synthetic method, is either silylated or heated to effect an etherification so as to decrease the surface silanol radicals of the amorphous silica hydrate, and (b) an anhydrous, amorphous silica obtained by a dry synthetic method, or a silylated derivative thereof, and optionally one or more compounds having a polyethyleneglycol or polypropyleneglycol chain or an ethyleneglycolpropyleneglycol copolymeric chain, or a mixture of these compounds which results in a stabilization of the active ingredients without any adverse influences on the physical properties of the ingredients.
