    Aiding chronic written language expression difficulties: A case study
    摘要:
    This paper describes some progress made in helping a young aphasic man (MD) to overcome what had appeared to be intractable written language expression difficulties, which continued to be significant for him. Traditional therapy methods based on cognitive neuropsychological assessment had failed to help MD to generalize improvement in his spelling particularly, but not exclusively, of longer and irregular words. Both a splint which allowed him to use his dominant hand for writing directly onto a computer screen and a simple word-processing programme with synthesized auditory feedback and lexical and grammatical prediction (Write:OutLoud(R) and Co:Writer(R)) enabled him to produce more normal written output (increased quantity and more normal quality). The discussion also focuses on how effectiveness of language therapy can be measured in this man with chronic aphasia.

    A facile and rapid method for the synthesis of novel imidazole and benzimidazole aromatic acyclic nucleosides is described.     This invention discloses a functional monomer, its use in a polymer, a rubbery composition, a tire, and a process to make such a rubbery composition. The functional monomer has a structural formula selected from the group consisting of: wherein the R1 groups can be the same or different and represent hydrogen atoms or alkyl groups containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, wherein R2 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, wherein R3 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, wherein R4 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, with the proviso that if R3 represents an alkyl group then R4 represents a hydrogen atom, and with the proviso that R4 represents an alkyl group then R3 represents a hydrogen atom, and wherein the R5 groups can be the same or different and represent alkyl groups containing from 1 to 8 carbon atoms.

    La synthése de la 4,6,7-triméthoxy- et de la 1-méthyl-4,6,7-triméthoxy-9-xanthone a été réalisée en faisant agir un mélande d'anhydride acétique et d'acide sulfurique sur l'acide 6-(2′-méthoxy)- ou 6-(2′-methoxy-5′-méthylphénoxy)-vératrique. La préparation de ces deux acides a été effectuée en condensant le 6-bromovératrate de méthyle avec le guaїacolate ou l'isocréosolate de potassium en présence de cuivre. La 1-carboxy-4,6,7-triméthoxy-9-xanthone, un produit de dégradation de la cularine, a été obtenue en oxydant la 1-méthyl-4,6,7-triméthoxy-9-xanthone par l'acide chromique en solution dans l'acide éthanoique.
