Inhoffen-Lythgoe diol is described for the first time. As an application, the syntheses of 1α, 18,25-trihydroxyvitamin D3 (2, dienyne route) and 18,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (3, Wittig-Horner approach) are described. The synthetic strategy allows further functionalization of the hormone 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 at C-18.
