    Self-Assembled Lamellar Nanostructures of Wholly Aromatic Rod−Rod-Type Block Molecules
    摘要:
    Wholly aromatic rod-rod type di- and triblock molecules, oligo(ether sulfone)-b-oligo(ether ketone)s (OES-OEK), were synthesized to study a solid-state self-assembled nanostructure. The OES and OEK segments in the block molecules form segregated crystalline domains. The energy-filtering transmission electron microscopy images revealed that the di- and triblock OES-OEK co-oligomers formed lamellar nanostructures with a periodicity of similar to 9 and 13 nm, respectively.

    A polymer which comprises recurring units derived from at least one monomer (M) having a general formula (I) Y 1 —Z 1 -Q-Z 2 —Y 2 wherein Y 1 and Y 2 , equal or different from each other, are independently selected from a group consisting of OH, SH, Cl, Br, NO 2 or I; Z 1 and Z 2 , equal or different from each other, independently comprises at least 1 aromatic ring and, Q comprises at least one hydrophilic moiety (H) selected from the group consisting of a sulfone (SO 2 ), a ketone (CO), a phosphine oxide (PO), an ether, a thioether, an ester, an anhydride, a carbonate, an amide, an imide, an imine and an urethane group, and the interatomic distance between Y 1 and Y 2 is at least 10 Å, the monomer has an EC 50 response value to the estrogen receptor a (ERα) equal to or at least 26000 nM.

    Crystal forms of polyethersulfones (PES) were investigated by using a model compound and a low molecular weight oligomer. These are amorphous as-synthesized, and can undergo solvent-induced crystallization under the appropriate conditions. The model compound, 4,4′-bis(p-methoxyphenoxy)diphenyl sulfone, yielded monocrystals, and its structure was solved using X-ray diffraction. Conformational disorder is present, two conformers cohabiting in 55:45 proportions. This model compound, combined to previous structural studies published in the literature, served as a basis for conformational studies of polyethersulfone. Low molecular weight polymers submitted to solvent-induced crystallization resulted in a PES crystal form different from that previously published in the literature, as shown by powder X-ray diffraction.
