  galacto-pyranoside derivatives with acetone dimethyl acetal and acetophenone dimethyl acetal gave the 6- O -(methoxydimethyl)methyl and the 6- O -(methoxymethylphenyl)methyl derivatives as the kinetic products. Formation of 6- O -(methoxydimethyl)methyl derivatives in transacetalation reactions was also demonstrated where cyclisation of the mixed acetal was impossible.
