A method for synthesis of halide salts of the general formula: Zn+X-n; the method comprising reacting a first reactant being formate salt with a second reactant being a diatom halogen: X2.
Two crystalline salts Sar center dot HI and 2Sar center dot HI are obtained in result of investigation of the system sarcosine + HI + H2O. The crystal and molecular structures as well as vibrational spectra of Sar center dot HI (Sar(+)center dot I-) and 2Sar center dot HI ((Sar center dot center dot center dot Sar(+))center dot I-) have been determined and are discussed. Sar center dot HI is isotypic with Sar center dot HCl and Sar center dot HBr (space group P2(1)). In contrast, 2Sar center dot HI represents a new structure with an A center dot center dot center dot A(+) type dimeric cation (space group P2(1)/c), i.e., it is not isostructural with the isotypic pair of 2Sar center dot HCl and 2Sar center dot HBr (space group Pac2(1)). The asymmetric units of both species contain one formula unit each. The O center dot center dot center dot O distance in the dimeric Sar center dot center dot center dot Sar(+) cation is equal to 2.496(4) angstrom.
