    Propagation and Termination Kinetics of Cross-Linking Photopolymerizations Studied Using Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy in Conjunction with Near IR Spectroscopy

    The use of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) in conjunction with Fourier transform near infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy to address the complexities associated with the accurate measurement and evaluation of cross-linking polymerization kinetics over the entire conversion range is explored. Experimental protocols are developed providing a more complete picture of the mechanistic and kinetic underpinnings of these radical polymerizations, accessing information that is otherwise unavailable to these techniques individually. The kinetics of two multimethaerylate polymerization systems, one forming a rubbery and the other a glassy polymer network, are compared and contrasted revealing numerous differences in their attributes as characterized by this experimental combination. Steady-state and unsteady-state radical concentration profiles, propagating radical environments during polymerization, and persistent radical populations are explored and utilized to evaluate the underlying propagation and termination kinetics. Subsequently, kinetic parameters obtained with EPR and EPR/FT-NIR are compared with those obtained independently from FT-NIR, enabling evaluation of the assumptions that underlie each technique.

    It is an object of the invention to provide a plasticized polyvinyl acetal composition that is suitably used for an intermediate film of a laminated glass and other applications, specifically, the polyvinyl acetal composition being characterized in that in cases when a layer that is composed of the polyvinyl acetal composition and another resin layer such as a resin layer of a polycarbonate, a poly(meth)acrylic acid ester, or a styrene thermoplastic elastomer are laminated, the plasticizer does not migrate from the polyvinyl acetal layer. The present invention relates to a polyvinyl acetal composition including 100 parts by mass of a polyvinyl acetal and 0.5 to 100 parts by mass of an ester plasticizer or ether plasticizer that is amorphous or has a melting point of 30° C. or less, and has a hydroxyl value of 15 to 450 mgKOH/g.

    An object is to provide a polyvinyl acetal film which has excellent transparency and can suppress a thermal cracking phenomenon. The above object is achieved by providing a polyvinyl acetal film in which a ratio between a composite modulus (GPa) of the highest part in a convex part and a composite modulus (GPa) of the lowest part in a concave part on a surface of a film on a side in contact with glass, calculated by a nanoindentation measurement using a scanning probe microscope, is 0.90 or less, when a laminated glass is formed. In addition, the above object is achieved by providing a polyvinyl acetal film in which a ratio between a hardness (GPa) of the highest part in the convex part and a hardness (GPa) of the lowest part in the concave part, calculated by the SPM nanoindentation measurement, is 0.90 or less.

    The present invention relates to a resin composition, comprising: a modified vinyl acetal resin which comprises 20 to 80 mol% of ethylene units and 4 to 76 mol% of vinyl alcohol units based on all monomer units constituting the resin, and has an acetalization degree of 5 to 80 mol%; and an alkali metal salt and/or an alkaline earth metal salt of a strong acid, wherein a total content of the alkali metal salt and/or the alkaline earth metal salt of the strong acid is 0.0005 to 0.06 part by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass of the modified vinyl acetal resin.
