Activation of Carbon Dioxide by Silyl Triflate-Based Frustrated Lewis Pairs

Silyl triflates of the form R4−nSi(OTf)n (n=1, 2; OTf=OSO3CF3) are shown to activatecarbondioxide when paired with bulky alkyl‐substituted Group 15 bases. Combinations of silyl triflates and 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine react with CO2 to afford silyl carbamates via a frustratedLewispair‐type mechanism. With trialkylphosphines, the silyl triflates R3Si(OTf) reversibly bind CO2 affording [R′3P(CO2)SiR3][OTf]

Trifluoromethanesulfonates of silicon, germanium, tin and lead are obtained by cleavage of the corresponding phenyl derivatives with CF3SO3H. Selective cleavage of the tincarbon bond is observed in the case of silyl- and germylstannanes. Reaction of bis(trifluoromethanesulfonates) with lithiumorganic compounds leads to functional substituted triflate derivatives.

Taming a silyldiium cation and its reactivity towards sodium phosphaethynolate

The synthesis of a (bis)NHC-silyldiium cation is reported and its reactivity towards sodium phosphaethynolate is shown to enable access to seven-membered heterocycles with P–X moieties (X = Si, P).
