    An epoxy group-containing thermosetting resin composition comprising (A) a copolymer obtained from (a) at least one member selected from an unsaturated carboxylic acid and an unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydride, (b) an epoxy group-containing unsaturated compound, (c) a monoolefin unsaturated compound, and (d) a conjugated diolefin unsaturated compound, and (B) an organic solvent for dissolving the above copolymer. There is also provided epoxy-group containing radiation sensitive resin composition which contains a component (A) obtained from (a), (b) and (c) and optionally (d), (C) a polymerizable compound having at least one ethylenically unsaturated double bond, and (D) a photopolymerization initiator. These epoxy-group containing thermosetting resin compositions are excellent in storage stability.

    A sealant for a liquid crystal display cell which has a water absorption coefficient of 2 mass % or less, and a composition for a liquid crystal display cell sealant comprising an epoxy resin (1), a curing agent (2) comprising at least one selected from polyphenol compounds, polyphenol resins and esterified products thereof and a curing accelerator (3) comprising at least one selected from alkylurea derivatives and phosphazene compounds. A liquid crystal display element produced by using the composition is capable of securing long time display (quality) stability under high temperature and high humidity.

    An electrically conductive cement which when used to bond electrically conductive mating surfaces provides substantially stable conductivity characteristics under high humidity conditions; comprised of a carrier that provides a volumetric shrinkage of more than about 6.8% (vol.) and a conductive filler including agglomerates, particles, powders, flakes, coated nickel particles, and coated glass spheres, having size and surface characteristics that maintain stable electrical contact by forming a moisture resistant contact with an electrical component lead. The carrier having a volumetric shrinkage between the uncured and cured states of greater than about 6.8% (vol) appears to effect a compaction of the filler particles causing the particles to be forced into enhanced electrical contact with the surfaces to be connected and to provide a measure of compaction between the particles themselves to enhance particle-to-particle conduction. The shrinkage of the polymeric carrier during curing places the interior particles under compression with sufficient force to urge the particles into engagement with one another as well as to cause the particles to penetrate non-conductive oxides that may be present on a component lead.

    A two-component sealant composition for a plastic liquid crystal display cell of the invention contains the following components (1) to (6): (1) a liquid epoxy resin having from 1.7 to 6 in weight average of epoxy groups in one molecule and an ionic conductivity of an aqueous solution obtained by extraction separation by contact mixing with 10 times by weight of pure water at from 40 to 80°C of 2 mS/m or less, (2) a curing agent containing one or a mixture of two or more selected from a tetrafunctional mercapto compound, a modified polymercapto derivative, a micro-encapsulated imidazole compound, or a methyl methacrylate adduct of an alicyclic diamine, having an ionic conductivity of an aqueous solution obtained by extraction separation by contact mixing with 10 times by weight of pure water at from 40 to 80°C of 0.6 mS/m or less, (3) a curing accelerator,(4) an inorganic filler, (5) a silane coupling agent, and (6) rubbery polymer fine particles having a softening temperature of 0°C or less and an average particle diameter of primary particles of from 0.01 to 5 µm.

    An object of the invention is to provide a sealant composition for a plastic liquid crystal display cell that is capable of being applied to a sheet heat press adhesion method and of producing a plastic liquid crystal display cell having high reliability under a high temperature and high humidity environment. A two-component sealant composition for a plastic liquid crystal display cell of the invention contains the following components (1) to (6): (1) from 15 to 84% by weight of a liquid epoxy resin having from 1.7 to 6 in weight average of epoxy groups in one molecule and an ionic conductivity of an aqueous solution obtained by extraction separation by contact mixing with 10 times by weight of pure water at from 40 to 80° C. of 2 mS/m or less, (2A) from 10 to 50% by weight of a curing agent containing one or a mixture of two or more selected from (2A-1) a tetrafunctional mercapto compound or (2A-2) a modified polymercapto derivative, having an ionic conductivity of an aqueous solution obtained by extraction separation by contact mixing with 10 times by weight of pure water at from 40 to 80° C. of 0.6 mS/m or less, (3) from 0.01 to 15% by weight of a curing accelerator, (4) from 5 to 50% by weight of an inorganic filler, (5) from 0.1 to 5% by weight of a silane coupling agent, and (6) from 1 to 25% by weight of rubbery polymer fine particles having a softening temperature of 0° C. or less and an average particle diameter of primary particles of from 0.01 to 5 &mgr;m.
