O-Methyl-α-thebaol is a new natural compound. The presence of isothebaine is confirmed. Lanthanide-induced chemical shifts can be used for the assignments of the 13C NMR chemical shifts of isothebaine and phenanthrenes. The use of lanthanide-induced chemical shifts in the identification of methoxyl resonances in 1H NMR is discussed.
In continuation of our recent papers [2, 3] a successful approach to N,C-10-bridged morphine derivatives by rearrangement of the chloroacetate of the previously described indolino-codeinone dimethylacetal is described.

In addition to recently reported results [1, 2] we present a new codeine-analogue 7 with a different structural pattern in the nitrogen-region of the alkaloid. Synthesis by two different routes and some elucidating reactions are described.
