Synthesis of P-chiral enephosphonic acid derivatives

An efficient and convenient synthesis of chiral enephosphonic acid derivatives (enephosphonates, enephosphonamides, enephosphinates) was reported by a two-step procedure involving alkylidenediphosphorylation of nucleophiles followed by a Horner-Emmons olefination. Depending on the selected strategy, the synthesis could be executed according to a one-pot or a two-step reaction sequence. Regioselectivity of Horner-Emmons reaction and P-31-NMR study of diphosphorylated anions were described. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

various electron-deficient alkenes is achieved by the employment of an NHC–boryl radical. A range of α-borylated nitriles, trifluoromethyl molecules, phosphonates, sulfones, and gem-diboron compounds have been prepared from readily available startingmaterials. Further synthetic applications of these products are also demonstrated.
Diphenyl diselenide (PhSeSePh) was effective as a pre-catalyst for the vicinal dichlorination of α,β-unsaturated phosphonates with sulfuryl chloride. The reaction conditions were mild and the desired products were formed in up to 93% yield and moderate diastereoselectivity (10 : 1). The important diphenylselenium dichloride intermediate was obtained and characterized by X-ray crystallography.
