SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION, LIGATIONAL AND BIOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF SOME ACYLHYDRAZINE DERIVED FURANYL AND THIENYL SCHIFF BASES WITH Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), AND Zn(II) METAL IONS

Some acylhydrazine-derived furanyl and thienyl Schiff bases and their Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes have been prepared and characterized on the basis of their elemental analyses, magnetic moments, molar conductances and spectroscopic (electronic, IR, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR) data. All of the Schiff base ligands function as tetradentates forming octahedral complexes with Co(11), Ni(11) and Zn(II) ions and a square-planar complex with Cu(H) ion. The ketonic form for the ligands L-1 and L-2 are the enolic form for the ligands L-3 and L-4 are preferred in the coordination. All of the ligands are biologically active and, in comparison, their metal complexes have shown higher bactericidal activity against one or more bacterial species such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, or Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

[M(L1)(L2)]Clm⋅nH2O (M = Cr(III) and Fe(III): m = 3, n = 0; M = Cu(II) and Cd(II): m = 2, n = 1; M = Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II): m = 2, n = 0). The resultant data revealed that the metalcomplexes have octahedral structure. Also, the mixed ligand complexes are electrolytic. The biological and anticancer activities of the new compounds were tested against breast cancer (MCF‐7) and colon cancer (HCT‐116)
