A Zwitterionic Palladium(II) Complex as a Precatalyst for Neat-Water-Mediated Cross-Coupling Reactions of Heteroaryl, Benzyl, and Aryl Acid Chlorides with Organoboron Reagents
A zwitterionic palladium(II) complex has been found to be an efficient catalyst for Suzuki–Miyaura cross‐coupling reactions of aryl and heteroaryl organoboron reagents with various heteroaryl chlorides, aryl‐ and heteroarylmethyl chlorides, and aryl acid chlorides in neat water.

Anhydrousferricchloride and [Re(CO)4Br]2 are shown to be useful reagents for the catalytic deprotection of benzylic esters. A suitable protecting group is p-MeC6H4CH2 with a working temperature of 50°C for debenzylation.

Benzylation of Arenes with Benzyl Halides under Promoter-Free and Additive-Free Conditions
It was found that benzyl chlorides and bromides could directly react with electron‐rich arenes, which provided an example of promoter‐ and additive‐free benzylation of arenes.
A new method for the efficient synthesis of diarylmethanes via a radical process involving thermolysis of bis(arylmethyl)tin dichlorides in the presence of arenes is reported. The intermediate arylmethyl radical can be trapped with TEMPO.
