Finding further function : Five new salinilactones have been identified by GC/MS and synthesis, thereby extending the family of salinilactones to eight compounds. Inhibition assays with actinomycetes, tracking of salinilactone production in Salinispora bacteria, and brine shrimp assays provided insight into the occurrence and biological purpose of salinilactones.

The first synthesis of the whole antiostatin family is described by using an iron-mediated carbazole synthesis, regioselective nitration at C-4 and establishing 5-isobutyl-1-nitrobiuret as a reagent for introduction of the antiostatin B side chain at C-4.

A rhodiumcomplex bearing a chiral phosphite ligand catalyzes the hydrosilylation of β,β-disubstituted enamides to afford valuable α-aminosilanes in a highly regio-, diastereo-, and enantioselective manner. Stereodivergent synthesis is achieved by regulating substrate geometry and ligand enantiomer to generate all the possible stereoisomers in high enantio-purity.
