  Compounds having the formula ##STR1## wherein M is an alkali metal or ammonium, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are hydrogen, methyl or ethyl and R.sub.3 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or COOM are useful sequestrants and detergency builders.
