    phosphonium salts R3PR1 X (X = Cl, Br) from phosphine oxides R3PO. The new organic group R1 is introduced via nucleophilic attack on an intermediate halophosphonium salt using a Grignard reagent R1MgX and replaces the traditional phosphine quaternization approach. Consequently, the new method does not suffer from the limited availability of many parent phosphines and is much faster than standard quaternization

    There are disclosed a composition comprising (E)-1,4-dibromo-2-methyl-2-butene and (Z)-1,4-dibromo-2-methyl-2-butene, wherein the ratio of the E isomer to the total amount of the E and Z isomers is 0.9 or more; a process for producing the same and a process using the same to produce an allyl halide compound of formula (1): 1 wherein X denotes a bromine atom, Y denotes an ArS(O) 2 group or an RCOO group, wherein Ar denotes an aryl group which may be substituted and R denotes a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group or an aryl group which may be substituted, and the wavy line means that the derivative is a mixture of an E or Z geometrical isomer.

    According to a production process, aromatic ethers are producible by reacting phenols with an oxirane compound with use of an anion exchange resin as a catalyst. According to another production process, aromatic ethers having an alcoholic hydroxyl group are producible by a crystallization-purification step of using a solvent having a solubility parameter ranging from 7.5 to 12.5 for purification by crystallization. Further, according to still another production process, producible are aromatic ethers having an alcoholic hydroxyl group, wherein the content of a metal in the aromatic ethers is less than 100 ppm by mass, and the content of a halogen element in the aromatic ethers is less than 100 ppm by mass.

    An object of the present invention is to provide a deep-ultraviolet-transmitting epoxy resin cured product having high heat resistance and high resistance to deep-ultraviolet light, and to provide a curing accelerator and an epoxy resin composition which are used for producing the epoxy resin cured product. The curing accelerator for deep-ultraviolet-transmitting epoxy resins comprises a tetraalkylphosphonium dialkyl phosphate represented by the following general formula (1): wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , and R 6 each represent an alkyl group or an alkyl group having a hydroxyl group, which has 1 to 8 carbon atoms and is linear, branched, or alicyclic; and R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 , and R 6 may be the same or different. Also disclosed are an epoxy resin composition comprising the curing accelerator and an epoxy resin cured product obtained by curing the resin composition.
