A simple and almost quantitative synthesis of the first salts of the PCO− anion with organic cations is presented. Moreover, we discovered a simple synthesis for [P(nBu)3Me]+3[Sb11]3−, the first organic cation salt comprising the Zintl-anion [Sb11]3−.

We present the synthesis and thorough characterization of ionic liquids and organic saltsbased on hydrochalcogenide HE− (E=S, Se, Te) anions. Our approach is based on halide‐, metal‐, and water‐free decarboxylation of methylcarbonate precursors under acidic conditions, resulting from the easily dissociating reagents H2E. A series of alkyltributylphosphonium chloride ionic liquids, prepared from tributylphosphine and the respective 1-chloroalkane, CnH2n+1Cl (where n = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 or 14), is reported. This work is a continuation of an extended series of tetraalkylphosphonium ionic liquids, where the focus is on the variability of n and its impact on the physical properties, such as melting points/glass transitions, thermal stability, density and viscosity. Experimental density and viscosity data were interpreted using QPSR and group contribution methods and the crystal structure of propyl(tributyl)phosphonium chloride is detailed.

Unexpected Intrinsic Lability of Thiol-Functionalized Carboxylate Imidazolium Ionic Liquids

Conversely, the formation of the imidazole 2-thione was not observed when phosphonium disulfide ILs were heated, thus confirming the involvement of the imidazolium ring in an unexpected side reaction.
