Novel 1-(2-diisopropylaminoethyl)-3-alkylbenzimidazolium salts as N-heterocyclic carbene precursors 2a-g were prepared by quartemazition of 1-(2-diisopropylaminoethyl)benzimidazoles in DMF with alkyl halides. The salts were characterized spectroscopically and in situ formed complexes from Pd(OAc) 2 and 2 have been tested as catalyst in homogenous Heck and Suzuki reactions.

A new tetramethylene linked bis(benzimidazole) ligand has been obtained by a simple method. The in situ formed catalytic system derived from the benzimidazolium salt and Pd(OAc)2 was used in the Heck reaction between aryl halides and styrene in water. The corresponding Heck products were obtained in good yields.
The benzimidazolium salts were prepared by quaternazition of 1-(2-diisopropylaminoethyl)benzimidazoles in N,N-dimethylformamide with alkyl halides. The salts were characterized spectroscopically and their crystal structures were determined by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction method. The 1H NMR and 13C NMR and FT-IR features were also characterized by using Density Functional Theory at B3LYP level

Reduction hydrogenation of imines by in situ generated rhodium NHC complexes

this paper we examined the catalytic activity of in situ prepared bidentate azolium salt/[RhCl(COD)]2 catalyst system in the transfer hydrogenation of imines with i-propanol to the corresponding amine. The first in situ transfer hydrogenation of imines to amines is described using [RhCl(COD)]2 with bidentate azolium ligands. Newbidentate azolium salts (1a-c, 2a-c) as NHC precursors have been synthesized
and Au(I)NHC complexes. These NHC ligands were metallated with Ag2O on moderate conditions to give novel silver-NHC complexes. Gold-NHC complexes have been obtained by transmetalation using the silver-NHC precursor. The structures of all compounds were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, IR and elemental analysis techniques.
