    An EPM or EPDM type of elastomer is modified by graft copolymerization with acrylic ester type of monomeric material whose homopolymer has a glass transition temperature of not greater than 6° C, in an amount sufficient to provide an ester group (-COO-) content of from 25 to 40% by weight, to yield a mixed copolymerizate vulcanizable to a heat and oil resistant elastomeric state.

    A multi-component copolymer rubber consisting essentially of (A) 20 to 69.5% by weight of a cyanosubstituted alkyl (meth)acrylate, (B) 30 to 79.5% by weight of an alkyl acrylate, (C) 0.5 to 10% by weight of a crosslinkable monomer and (D) 0 to 10% by weight of other ethylenically unsaturated monomer copolymerizable with (A), (B) and (C), excels in heat resistance, ozone resistance, sour gasoline resistance and sour gasohol resistance. These properties of said multi-component copolymer rubber can further be improved by incorporating into the copolymer rubber a crosslinking agent, a metal salt, a vinylidene fluoride polymer, a vinyl chloride resin or other multi-component copolymer rubber.

    A vulcanizable rubber composition comprises (1) 100 parts by weight of a polymer composition comprising (I) a vinylidene fluoride resin, (II) at least one acrylic rubber, a,p-unsaturated nitrile-conjugated diene copolymer rubber or hydride of an a,p-unsaturated nitrile-conjugated diene copolymer rubber, (III) another blendable polymer, wherein the weight ratio of (I)/[(II) + (III)] is from 5/95 to 60/ 40 and the weight ratio of (II)/(III) is from 100/0 to 50/50, and (2) from 0 to 40 by weight of a plasticizer. Said rubber composition excels not only in heat resistance, gasoline resistance and sour gasoline resistance but also in gasohol resistance and sour gasohol resistance and further has good tensile strength, elongation and balance between gasoline resistance and low-temperature resistance. Therefore, it can be used in the fluid-contacting surface of a diaphragm or as an inner tube of a fuel hose.

    A substantially random, linear vinylidene fluoride-acrylic acid ester copolymer comprising: (A) 5-85% by weight of a vinylidene fluoride unit, (B) 15-950/0 by weight of at least one unit selected from the group consisting of an alkyl acrylate unit and an alkoxy-substituted alkyl acrylate unit, and (C) optionally 10% by weight or less, based on the total weight of (A), (B) and (C), of a crosslinking monomer unit, and having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.01-10 dl/g as measured at 30° C in N,N-dimethylformamide. Said copolymer has not only excellent heat resistance, ozone resistance and sour gasoline resistance but also excellent resistance to gasoline permeation.

    A no-post-cure method of curing polyacrylates having dual cure sites is accomplished with a two-part curing system or a combined one-part curing system. The two-part curing system consists of one or more metallic acid salts and an ammonium and/or phosphonium quaternary salt. The one-part curing system consists of an ammonium or phosphonium quaternary acid salt. The polyacrylate rubber must have both a halogen and a carboxyl cure site. The method consists of blending the curative with the polyacrylate rubber and heating the resultant com­position until the composition cures. Because the mixed composition is shelf stable, it is not necessary to immediately heat the composition to cure it. The method may optionally include the step of storing the mixed composition until it is desired to cure it.
