An efficient, chiral bifunctional phase-transfer catalyst with an intramolecular amino functionality has been designed and successfully applied to highly enantioselective amination of 3-aryloxindoles and 3-arylbenzofuran-2(3H)-ones with bis(adamantyl) azodicarboxylate.
