  The bis-indole alkaloid hyrtiosin B (1) has been prepared in good yield from 5-benzyloxyindole (4a) or 5-methoxyindole (4b), involving a coupling reaction of the zinc metallated indoles with the corresponding glyoxylyl chlorides 5a-b, and finally debenzylation or demethylation using boron tribromide to yield the title compound 1.
