The first approach for the synthesis of 2-alkylthio-4,5-disubstituted-1,3-selenazole cores via metallation of dimethyl N-(ethoxycarbonylmethyl)iminodithiocarbonate (EMIC) and subsequent reaction with selenothioic acid S-ester is described.
