[2+2] or [4+2]? Mechanistic studies on the gold‐catalyzed intramolecularoxygentransfer of 2‐alkynyl‐1,5‐diketones were performed using isotopic experiments and quantum chemical calculations. The results demonstrate that the transformation follows a [4+2] pathway instead of the previously proposed [2+2] path (see scheme).
