    Cathodic synthesis of cyclobutanes

    Previously we showed that during cathodic electrolysis of compounds with an activated methylene group (CAMG) in the presence of 1,2-dichloroethane [1] or 1,4-dibromobutane [2] a Perkin reaction-type process occurs which affords 1,1-disubstituted cyclopropanes and cyclopentanes, respectively. Continuing the study, we considered the possibility of cathodic synthesis of four-membered alicyclic compounds during electrolysis of compounds with an activated methylene group in the presence of 1,3-dihalopropanes. Usually, cyclobutane derivatives are obtained in the Perkin reaction with somewhat greater difficulty than are their nearest homologs [3]; therefore, alternative methods for the synthesis of cyclobutanes must still be sought.

    A catalyst for polymerization of olefins formed from (A) a solid catalyst component containing magnesium, titanium, halogen, and an electron donor compound, (B) an organoaluminum compound shown by the formula, R 6 p AlQ 3-p , and (C) an aminosilane compound shown by the formula, R 3 n Si(NR 4 R 5 ) 4-n ; and a process for producing a catalyst for polymerization of olefins in the presence of the catalyst are provided. A novel aminosilane compound, a catalyst component for polymerization of olefins having a high catalytic activity, capable of producing polymers with high stereoregularity in a high yield, and exhibiting an excellent hydrogen response, a catalyst, and a process for producing olefin polymers using the catalyst are provided.

    An olefin polymer that is obtained using an olefin polymerization catalyst that includes a solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization that includes titanium, magnesium, a halogen, and an ester compound (A) represented by the following formula (1): R 1 R 2 C═C(COOR 3 )(COOR 4 ), an organoaluminum compound, and an optional external electron donor compound, exhibits primary properties (e.g., molecular weight distribution and stereoregularity) similar to those of an olefin polymer obtained using a solid catalyst component that includes a phthalic ester as an electron donor.

    A catalyst for polymerization of olefins and a process for producing an olefin polymer or copolymer are disclosed. The catalyst comprises (a) a solid catalyst component obtained by causing an organosilicon compound (b) represented by the formula, [CH2=CH-(CH2)n]qSiR34-q, and an organoaluminum compound to come in contact with a solid component comprising magnesium, titanium, halogen, and an electron donor compound, or a solid catalyst component obtained by causing a magnesium compound, two types of titanium compounds, an electron donor compound, and an organosilicon compound to come in contact with each other, and (B) an organoaluminum compound. The process for producing an olefin polymer or copolymer comprises polymerizing olefins in the presence of the catalyst. The catalyst has a high catalytic activity, exhibits excellent hydrogen response, and can produce polymers with high stereoregularity and a broad molecular weight distribution at a high yield.
