Bismalonates Constructed on a Hexaphenylbenzene Scaffold for the Synthesis of<i>Equatorial</i>Fullerene Bisadducts

Hexaphenylbenzene derivatives bearing two aldehyde groups were prepared by reaction of 4,4′-(ethyne-1,2-diyl)dibenzaldehyde with bisarylalkynes in the presence of a catalytic amount of Co2(CO)8.
