Transition-Metal-Free Synthesis of Phenanthridinones from Biaryl-2-oxamic Acid under Radical Conditions

Na2S2O8-promoted decarboxylative cyclization of biaryl-2-oxamic acid for phenanthridinones has been developed. This work illustrates the first example of intramolecular decarboxylative amidation of unactivated arene under transition-metal-free conditions. Additionally, this approach provides an efficient and economical method to access biologically interesting phenanthridinones, an important structure motif in many natural products.
Tert-butylamine-catalyzed free radical annulations with cyclic diaryliodoniums occur in environmentally friendly ethyl acetate and do not require transition metal, providing diversified polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by modulating substituents.
Abstract The coupling reaction of diverse arylhalogenids with phenyl-boronic acid undersolvent-freeconditions has been performed using a palladium catalyst. The order of reactivity was complementary to the normal Suzuki reaction.

bis-benzimidazolium salt provided a bulky steric group on the ethylene bridge; which facilitates the catalytic efficacy in the C(sp2)–C(sp2) formation. Its catalytic activity in Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of unactivated aryl chlorides has been found to have high efficacy in 1 mol% Pd loading. This protocol demonstrated the potential on the synthesis of stericallyhindered biaryls.

A trimetallic palladium/copper/silver system has been developed that allows the decarboxylativeHiyamacoupling of ortho‐substituted aryl carboxylates with trialkoxyarylsilanes to give the corresponding biaryls.
