A new practical catalyst-free method for one-pot synthesis of polycyclic 4,5-pyridazine-3(2H)-ones from alkenes was developed. 4,5-Pyridazine-3(2H)-ones were obtained in high yields in the presence of water by Inverse Electron-Demand Diels–Alder (IEDDA) reactions between norbornene and barrelene-derived polycyclic alkenes, and s-tetrazines with leaving groups at the 3,6-positions.
