Various primary and secondary benzylic alcohols were efficiently oxidized to aromatic aldehydes and aromatic ketones with iodic acid in DMF at 60 °C for 2 h and with iodic acid in the presence of TEMPO (5 mol %) in DMF at room temperature, respectively.
