A novel water-soluble photochemical microreactor has been prepared. A perbutylated cyclodextrin bearing seven naphthalenesulfonate antenna chromophores (Bu-CD-N7) displays improved solubilization of hydrophobic guests in comparison with the unbutylated material (CD-N7).
