An orthogonal process for photolithographic patterning organic structures is disclosed. The disclosed process utilizes fluorinated solvents or supercritical CO
2
as the solvent so that the performance of the organic conductors and semiconductors would not be adversely affected by other aggressive solvent. One disclosed method may also utilize a fluorinated photoresist together with the HFE solvent, but other fluorinated solvents can be used. In one embodiment, the fluorinated photoresist is a resorcinarene, but various fluorinated polymer photoresists and fluorinated molecular glass photoresists can be used as well. For example, a copolymer perfluorodecyl methacrylate (FDMA) and 2-nitrobenzyl methacrylate (NBMA) is a suitable orthogonal fluorinated photoresist for use with fluorinated solvents and supercritical carbon dioxide in a photolithography process. The combination of the fluorinated photoresist and the fluorinated solvent provides a robust, orthogonal process that is yet to be achieved by methods or devices known in the art.

Advances in the development of small molecules as highly potent anticancer drugs often face limitations related to their poor solubility, rapid elimination and limited stability in the body. The use of drug carriers may address these challenges by providing a protective shell that enhances solubility and retards clearance from the blood stream. Moreover, incorporation of drug delivery vectors can of introduce functionality and increase the selective accumulation at the specific target site. So-far-neglected, but particularly interesting, are organic nanotubes (NTs) formed by cyclic peptide-polymer conjugates. We present a specifically designed system comprising a self-assembling cyclic peptide core, a functional polymer shell and a highly potent organoiridium candidate drug.

A photo-, acid- and thermo-responsive nitrobenzene-based amphiphilic copolymer was synthesized and the corresponding multi-responsive behavior of the copolymer assemblies was revealed by TEM, DLS and AFM. The morphological changes of the assemblies under multi-stimuli endowed them with a controlled release of encapsulated molecules.

Triple stimuli-responsive nanogels are prepared by crosslinking the self-assemblies of pH-, temperature- and photo-sensitive amphiphilic copolymers. The increased stability by crosslinking and the synergistic responsiveness by combination of the stimuli endow the nanoparticles with great potential as new nanocontainers for controlled cargo release.

Upon UV irradiation, random copolymer P(NBMA-co-MEO2MA-co-OEGMA) was converted into P(MAA-co-MEO2MA-co-OEGMA) with disruption of the initial micelles. Further increasing the temperature or decreasing the pH induced the reformation of micelles.
