Abstract A series of novel [3]ferrocenophane-derived N/BfrustratedLewispairs (FLPs) were synthesized and successfully applied to the catalytic hydrogenation of imines in 71-93% yields. This approach could be easily conducted on gram scale and provided versatile synthetic route for the key intermediate of sertraline hydrochloride without heavy metal residues. Graphical Abstract

Phenyliminodimagnesium reagent (PhN(MgBr)2) and its o- and p-methoxy derivatives, prepared in THF by treatment of anilines with EtMgBr, were found to be effective for condensation with benzophenones and fluorenone. The corresponding anils (N-(diarylmethylene)anilines) were prepared in good yields.

A series of [2.2]paracyclophane‐derived frustrated Lewispairs (FLPs) with reversible, metal‐freehydrogen activation was synthesized and successfully applied in the hydrogenation of imines in moderate to good yields.
