  A pyridine derivative represented by general formula (I), a process for producing the same, and a herbicide comprising the same. In formula (I) W represents oxygen, sulfur, NH or N-C(O)B wherein B represents hydrogen or alkoxy; and Z represents methine or nitrogen. This compound has an excellent herbicidal effect on annual and perennial weeds growing in lowland and upland fields even in an extremely low dose. Since it is harmless to wheat, cotton and corn, it can be used as a herbicide in the fields where these crops are cultivated.
