    In a polyester production method, a titanium compound having a radical selected from a carbonyl group, a carboxyl group, or an ester group, and a phosphorous compound having a structure illustrated in Formula (I), are added. 1 This yields a polyester composition which does not exhibit increased filter pressure when forming, which has excellent filament and film forming properties, and which has a polymer color tone superb to that of conventional products.

    A method for dyeing polyester fibers by using a disperse dye, wherein said dyeing is conducted under an alkaline condition in an aqueous medium in the presence of ① at least one amino acid member selected from the group consisting of an amino acid, an amino acid derivative having at least one hydrogen atom of its amino group replaced with an organic group, and a salt of such an amino acid or amino acid derivative, and ② at least one polycarboxylic acid or a salt thereof selected from the group consisting of ethylenediamine having at least two hydrogen atoms of its amino group replaced with a -RCOOH group (R means a C₁₋₃ alkylene group) and a salt thereof; polyethylenepolyamine having at least two hydrogen atoms of its amino group or imino group replaced with a -RCOOH group (R means the same as defined above) and a salt thereof; and nitrilotriacetic acid, nitrilotripropionic acid, iminodiacetic acid, iminodipropionic acid, β-hydroxyethyl-iminodiacetic acid, β-hydroxyethyl-iminodipropionic acid and salts thereof.

    The present invention aims to provide a practical polyester that can be produced substantially without using an antimony compound as a polycondensation catalyst. (I) The present invention provides a polyester resin composition containing, on a weight basis, 30 ppm or less of antimony, 0.5 to 50 ppm of titanium, and 0.1 to 100 ppm of phosphorus, in which the number density of titanium-containing particles, the equivalent circular diameter of which is 1 µm or more, is less than 100/0.02 mg; and (II) The present invention provides a polyester resin composition containing, on a weight basis, 30 ppm or less of antimony, 0.5 to 50 ppm of titanium, and 0.1 to 100 ppm of phosphorus, in which organic polymer particles are contained in amount of 0.1 to 5 wt%, the organic polymer particles having an average particle diameter determined by dynamic light scattering of 0.05 to 3 µm and containing 0.01% or less of coarse particles relative to the total number of the particles, the coarse particles having a diameter at least twice the average particle diameter.

    A polyester film for recording medium, having one major surface thereof provided with a coating layer containing fine particles of 5 to 60 nm diameter and an organic compound, wherein the number of fine surface projections existing on the surface of the coating layer is in the range of 3 million to 100 million/mm2, and the number of surface defects of 120 nm or greater height attributed to foreign matter contained in the film is 30/100 cm2 or less, and wherein the polyester contains a titanium compound substantially not having any particle diameter. Thus, there are provided a magnetic recording tape for digital data recording that can reduce dropouts and excels in durability, and further provided a polyester film that is suitable as a base film thereof.

    Since the majority of conventional organic/inorganic composite materials are obtained by mechanical blending of a silsesquioxane and an organic polymer or other means, it was extremely difficult to control the structure of the composite as a molecular agglomerate. In order to solve such a problem, the invention is to provide a silicon compound represented by Formula (1). This novel silicon compound has a living radical polymerization initiating ability for addition polymerizable monomers of a wide range. In Formula (1), R1 is hydrogen, an alkyl, an aryl, or an arylalkyl; R2 is an alkyl, phenyl, or cyclohexyl; and A is a group having a polymerization initiating ability for addition polymerizable monomers.
