Various protocols have been elaborated for the efficient synthesis of 3,4-dihydro-2H-1,2,3-benzothiadiazine 1,1-dioxides and their corresponding 2-alkyl-, 3-alkyl-, and 2,3-dialkyl derivatives. The importance of both the position of the primarily introduced alkyl substituent and the sequence of the alkylation and reduction steps has been investigated in detail.
