lpyrimidine‐5‐carbonitrile 1 with ethyl chloroacetate gave o‐aminoester thienopyrimidine derivative 3, which was reacted with a variety of reagents to give a series of novel thienopyrimidines including tetrazolyl thienopyrimidine, pyrrolylthienopyrimidine, pyrimidothienotriazine, and thienodipyrimidines.
