    This patent describes the catalytic promotion of the reaction of oxirane-containing compounds with carboxylic acid compounds at high, ambient, and low temperature. Specifically, this patent describes the method of reacting oxirane-containing compounds with carboxyl-containing compounds, preferably at temperatures at or around ambient, in the presence of active chromium III tricarboxylate salts which have unoccupied coordination sites. More specifically this patent describes the preparation of catalytically active chromium III-tricarboxylates from normally catalytically inactive chromium III tri-carboxylate hydrates. These compounds are powerful catalysts for the reactions of oxirane compounds with both organic carboxylic acids and cyclic primary imides.

    Coating compositions contain hydroxy esters, aminoplast and acrylic polyol oligomer. The esters may be formed by the reaction of C2-C12 diols or epoxy compounds with C2-C13 aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, or anhydrides or alkyl esters thereof. Bis-(ß-hydroxyalkyl) esters, such as bis-(ß- hydroxyethyl)adipate or azelate are preferred. N-methylol groups and/or N-methylol ether group-containing amino resins may be used as aminoplast and obtained by reaction of an aldehyde, such as formaldehyde, with a compound containing amino or amido groups, such as melamine or urea. Suitable oligomers have a weight average molecular weight of from 400 to 30,000 and a dispersity of from 1.1 to 10. These hydroxyl functional polymers may contain units of hydroxyalkyl acrylates and/or methacrylates.

    Provided are compositions which are suitable for topical application to mammalian skin for cleansing and anti-microbial properties. In one embodiment, the compositions include an ester of polyalkylene glycol monoazelate monolaurate. It is postulated that bacteria on or in the skin may cleave the ester linkage of a compound according to the present disclosure that is applied to the skin, which causes liberation of the acid moiety from the ester, which acid moiety then inhibits or kills the bacterium. Compositions according to the present disclosure may comprise skin creams, soaps, shampoos and lotions, and are especially effective in treating acne and acne-like skin ebullitions.
