N-Hydroxy-3-hydroxy-4-arylsulfonyltetrahydropyranyl-3-carboxamides were designed as novel inhibitors of MMP-13 and aggrecanase based on known endocyclic hydroxamate inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinases.
