An enantioselective bisvinylogous Mannich reaction of silyl ketene acetal with aldimines has been realized by using a chiral N,N′‐dioxide/Tm(OTf)3 complex as catalyst, providing an effective method to synthesize chiral ζ‐amino‐α,β,γ,δ‐unsaturated carbonyl compounds.
Dess-Martin Periodinane Mediated Intramolecular Cyclization of Phenolic Azomethines: A Solution-Phase Strategy toward Benzoxazoles and Benzothiazoles

Dess-Martin periodinane (DMP), a highly versatile hypervalent iodine(V) reagent, was found to efficiently mediate the intramolecular cyclization of phenolic azomethines/Schiff bases at ambient temperature leading to the rapid and expeditious synthesis of substituted benzoxazoles and benzothiazoles. Furthermore, a solution-phase strategy has been developed by treating the reaction mixtures sequentially with Amberlyst A-26 thiosulfate resin and diisopropylaminomethyl resin (PS-DIEA), which remove excess reagent and byproducts, to give pure products.

A new and efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of biologically significant 2-arylbenzimidazoles, 2-arylbenzothiazoles, and azomethines using recyclable and inexpensive polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP)-stabilized Ni nanoparticles in ethylene glycol at room temperature in excellent yields.

1,3-Benzoxazoles via oxidative cyclization of corresponding o-hydroxyarylidene anilines was synthesized in the presence of KMnO4/HOAc system. This system also was applied for the one-pot synthesis of 1,3-benzoxazoles from o-amino phenols and aldehydes. The both protocols were processed at room temperature under solvent-free conditions with good to excellent yields.
